Water
On the front of all our minds is water and how a reliable source will be necessary for our growing region. As a local councillor I will not play games with securing our future water sources.
Since 2019, much has been done to secure our future water needs. This includes improvements to Leslie Dam, new bores in our regional areas, establishing water infrastructure to transport water from Connolly Dam to Storm King Dam.
There is more to be done. I support the construction of a water pipeline that will establish a connection with our region to the South East Queensland Water Grid.
As a local councillor I will also advocate for the extension of a pipeline to Stanthorpe ensuring that during a drought water will be able to be pumped from Leslie Dam and Connolly Dam to Storm King Dam.
I have long been a vocal supporter for the construction of Emu Swamp Dam. I agree that water for agricultural/horticultural purposes will positively benefit the Granite Belt. I don’t support a new dam for urban water security.
If a proposal for an irrigation dam is made for the Granite Belt that is deemed to be viable, it will have my complete support. I believe that the last allocations of water from the Murray Darling scheme should be made in our region and as close as practicable to the head waters.
I also support the extended use of waste water recovery to grow businesses and improve sporting facilities.
