Main Issues
Housing & Development
Right across our country people are feeling the pinch when it comes to living standards. Paying the rent, meeting mortgage…
Tourism & Events
Our ability to attract tourists and events to the region is key to our future success and growth. Our council should take…
Better roads
Roads are the lifelines of our vastly connected region, whether you’re using our roads for work, recreation or accessing…
Other Issues
As your local councillor I will champion Southern Downs as a place that young people and families can enjoy a country living with access to a great job and education.
We need to encourage universities and TAFE to expand the opportunities to learn locally.
Our schools are some of the best in the state and our local youth need a place for a fulsome education. This includes not just what our schools can provide, but all of the well rounded things that are connected to our schools.
Our region deserves to have great arts and culture with all forms of art celebrated and showcased.
The parents of our next generation need to be supported through great jobs that make them a living wage. I believe council can contribute to this in two ways. Firstly our council should be a premier employer and having great workings conditions and workplace culture. Secondly our council must encourage growth in commercial and industrial opportunities.
The status quo is not an option.
Our region needs more doctors and more specialist healthcare.
As your local councillor I will work to encourage more doctors and healthcare providers making Southern Downs not only their home, but their work too.
We must work hand in hand with the state and federal government to make improved healthcare an agenda item when they are looking for opportunities to better support us.
As a local councillor I support not only the growth of but the betterment of our agriculture and horticulture industries.
When our growers and grow more, and grazing is plentiful our region will prosper.
This means our farmers need ideal conditions. We need the workers to work the land, we need the roads and industries to process our goods, we need facilities that encourage best practice.
We need to revisit the sale yards in Warwick with a view to ensuring they are fit for purpose and will continue to be this way for decades to come.
It is more than just sale yards though. Our growers need to have access to the markets and this means reliable roads and rail infrastructure. We also should encourage the development of more industry that can process our goods locally.
I believe that the Granite Belt would benefit from the establishment of a Regional Innovation Centre.
As your local councillor I will advocate to see an innovation centre established on the Granite Belt to support our producers and academics working together to meet future demand. Where a farmer wants to do something better, they should be assisted with all the tools of success.
We have great sporting clubs in our region and they rightly rely on great sporting venues. I will work with community members to ensure their club has access to the facilities they need.
Our councils grants program should be better managed and equitable access to its resources should be the goal.
More can be done for our sporting venues, and as a local councillor I will advocate specifically for greater access, particularly disability access, and appropriate facilities to allow all genders to participate in sport.
We can’t be future focused if we haven’t address the likely impacts of climate change.
Many farmers will tell you that they are at the forefront of the need to address climate change and they are not wrong. Our current council has done some work addressing the climate needs, however a lot more can be done.
Not one grounp of people have the answer.
We must work together and consult widely to ensue that the best climate actions are taken. I will always advocate for new development to be climate conscious and ensuring we are working towards a better future. This means ensuring that meaningful environmental assessments are conducted for new works.
Our council has failed to ensure that our small communities are future ready. In this day and age it’s not acceptable that a towns main street is a single vehicle track.
As your local councillor I will ensure that the large and noisy towns don’t out weight the needs of small communities.
Many years ago we went to communities and asked them what they wanted, we put that information into a nice binder and buried it behind the bookshelf.
It’s time to dust it off.
I will advocate for our towns strategic plans to ensure they meet the needs to their community. Where we make communities more liveable, they will grow. More and more people are looking for Queensland to be their home, and we have more than our fair share to offer.
Domestic and Family Violence is far too prevalent in our community… in every community. As a healthcare worker I have witnessed first hand the struggle of women who are abused, sometimes trying to hide the abuse out of shame and fear of judgement and reprisals.
I mention women because overwhelmingly it is women and children who are impacted by the behaviour of men.
Domestic and Family Violence is everyone’s business. If we want a community that is safe and respectful, then we all need to call it out when we see it.
As a councillor I will proactively support initiatives in our region that do much more. What that will look like depends on continuing to listen to those that know best about what they need, and persevering through the barriers to achieve results.
Further, I make a commitment to display the positive values and behaviours you have a right to expect from your elected representative, both in the chamber and out in the community.
I also pledge to speak up when confronted with unacceptable behaviour toward women, because “the standard you walk past is the standard you accept”.
