Protecting the Aged Pension

Protecting the Aged Pension

3 November 2017 by Joel Richters

Scott Morrison wants to increase the pension age to 70. This will mean that Australia will have the oldest pension age in the developed world.

How does Mr Morrison expect builders, farmers and nurses to work until they’re 70?

Australians deserve to be treated better by this government than being asked to work until they’re 70 before receiving the Age Pension.

All Australians born after 1 January 1966 will have to wait until they are 70 before being eligible for the Age Pension because of Mr Morrison.

Strong Healthcare System

Strong Healthcare System

3 November 2017 by Joel Richters

Scott Morrison and the LNP are cutting $715 million from Australia’s public hospitals from 2017 – 2020. That’s the equivalent of more than 2000 nurses every year.

When you or your loved ones are sick, the last thing you need is to worry about whether your local hospital has enough beds to give you the health care you need.

Every day, more that 21,000 Australians will visit an emergency department – with our hard-working doctors and nurses overstretched and under resourced to keep up with demand.

It’s time Morrison got the message. His hospital cuts are hurting local communities right now – but his only answer is even more cuts.

Good Secure Jobs

Good Secure Jobs

3 November 2017 by Joel Richters

Workers are crying out for good secure jobs. Decent jobs with a fair wage are essential to leading a good life. Scott Morrison and the LNP are ignoring working people, and making it even harder to find a good secure job.

Labor understands that reforming the labour hire sector is the first step to creating more secure jobs for Australian workers.

Scott Morrison tells us that casualisation isn’t a problem. Morrison and the LNP even voted against laws that would help recover unpaid wages from dodgy labour hire companies.

A Labor Government will legislate to ensure workers employed through a labour hire company will receive the same pay and conditions as people employed directly.

Labor’s new policy is based on a simple principle; if you are doing the same job, you should get the same pay.

Better Funding for Schools

Better Funding for Schools

3 November 2017 by Joel Richters

The LNP’s school cuts mean our children are missing out – fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention, and less help with the basics like reading, writing, and maths.

Labor will restore every dollar of the $17 billion that Scott Morrison cut from schools while he was Treasurer. LNP cuts hit public schools hardest, with 86% of cuts falling on public schools.

Labor believes Australian kids deserve the world’s best education – not more LNP cuts.

At the same time as Scott Morrison is cutting schools, he’s making life easier for big business, at the expense of our kids.

His priorities are all wrong.

Climate Change

Climate Change

3 November 2017 by Joel Richters

For the third consecutive year, Scott Morrison and the LNP have overseen an increase in Australia’s pollution levels.

During the last Labor Government, we decreased pollution by 11 per cent but under the LNP, pollution has increased by 6 per cent.

Labor is committed to cutting our carbon pollution by 45 per cent on 2005 levels by 2030, and to reach zero emissions by 2050.

The government’s own projections show pollution will keep rising all the way to 2030 – they have no policy to even meet their weak 26 -28 per cent emissions reduction target.

Pollution is up in every sector and Scott Morrison is failing future generations. LNP attacks on renewable energy and refusal to take real action on climate change is clear.
